The Salvation Army is an international movement and an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. It offers numerous assistance programs for those in need.

Rent Assistance (includes CONTRACT FOR DEED)--Two Programs:

1. First month's rent and/or deposit assistance: Only available in domestic violence situations, disasters, or when being released from an institution after 90 days. .

2. Back rent:
-General public rent: Will need five-day notice, proof of hardship, and proof of income (or projected income). Please call repeatedly Monday, February 3rd @ 8:30 a.m.
-Veterans; or those in domestic violence situations (with documentation); or those who have experienced a disaster: Call anytime
-Back rent program also includes contract for deed and lot rent for trailers.

Mortgage Assistance (principle & interest only; no late fees or escrow/taxes):
-Applicant will need proof of hardship, income (or projected income), and some sort of statement from the lender about delinquent payment---Please call repeatedly Monday, January 6th @ 8:30 a.m.

Energy (this program is for higher incomes):
Must meet Warm Neighbors, Cool Friends income guidelines ( Income Guidelines Listed Here)

Water: Must have a disconnect notice and proof of hardship. Will still consider those who have been disconnected too. Salvation Army can assist with up to $150 of the bill. *ONLY* if they have a disconnection notice. Otherwise, no assistance is available to clients. May call at any time.

*Please note that the Salvation Army cannot assist with sewer or garbage disposal bills.

Food Pantry:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Intake Process:

Food pantry: May walk in.

Program Fees:





Peoria County resident, and-

*Rent: Must have eviction notice, be homeless, be fleeing a domestic violence, or have experienced a disaster (e.g., a fire)

*Water Assistance: Must be a customer of Illinois American Water and sewer bills are not included. Must have a disconnect notice and proof of hardship.

*Electric/Gas Assistance (Warm Neighbors, Cool Friends for Ameren Illinois customers): For medium-income people in crisis situation (those with low incomes must go to PCCEO or Peoria Township Relief). Please see specific income guidelines and further eligibility guidelines in Utility Service Payment Assistance description.
